The Sole purpose of the corporation is to organize a Latvian song and dance festival in Milwaukee, WI during Jul 4 8, 2012. Following the festival, the corporation will be dissolved, and any outstanding funds will be distributed among various Latvian charitable organizations. The corporation has established a festival organizing committee that is making all the preparations for the festival. The Ofñcers of the corporation and members of the organizing committee are all unpaid Volunteers, Working on the project during evenings and Weekends.Latvian communities throughout the USA have been organizing such festivals every 5 years for over 50 years, as a means of preserving the Latvian culture and language in the USA. (The XII festival Was held in Indianapolis in 2007). These festivals were particularly meaningful during the years when Latvia was occupied by the Soviet Union, when such activities in the USA were aimed at maintaining a national identity in exile during a time of oppression in Latvia itself. Since Latvia regained its independence in 2001, the festivals continue to provide Latvians in the USA with the opportunity to celebrate their ethnicity and Cultural history and traditions.The core events of the festival are various concerts and dance recitals, showcasing traditional Latvian songs and folk dances.
