Hometown of the first emperor of the Han Dynasty (202 BC–220 AD), Xuzhou has always been an important traffic hub in China, playing a leading role in connecting the East and the West, the North and the South. Major station of the Beijing-Shanghai High-speed Railway, equidistant from these two megacities, Xuzhou is located on the Lianhuo Expressway running from the Yellow Sea on the East Coast (Lianyungang port) to the Kazakhstan border in the west (and thus to Europe). The Xuzhou GuanYin International Airport has been anticipated to receive 5 million visitors annually and achieve more than 50,000 tons of cargo handling capacity.
