Entertainment - São Paulo, State of São Paulo, Brazil
YBY Festival is the 1st indigenous-led International Festival of Indigenous Music in the history of Brazil. In its first edition, the event took place on November 29-30 and December 1, 2019, at the Unibes Cultural, in São Paulo / SP. Idealized by Rádio Yandê, the largest indigenous web radio in Brazil, YBY Festival happened successfully in the heart of São Paulo. In 2019, the Festival hosted 16 indigenous music performances, including traditional songs, rock, rap, heavy metal, MPB and funk, as well as the presence of an indigenous artist from Canada. In addition to music, the event sought to show other faces of indigenous art -- such as the YBY Indigenous Music Award (Galdino Pataxó Edition), a fashion show by the designer Beni Kadiwéu -- who works the graphics of her people on urban clothing and home furnishings --, traditional food, children's recreation, exposition fair, panels of discussion focused on indigenous art and entrepreneurship, among other attractions. Yby Festival refers to the word "YBY" which in the ancient Tupi language means island. And that is what Yby wants to offer: a space with its own atmosphere and ecosystems. On this island, indigenous culture is not limited to the past. The attractions show that indigenous traditions are alive and also use futuristic languages to express themselves.
