What is the "YES I CAN" Project? The"YES I CAN" Project is a non-profit organization that is committed to helping children build confidence and self-esteem. We want to counteract the prevalent mindset so many children unfortunately have... that they are incapable. Our desire is to help foster the belief that they can accomplish anything they set their mind to. We want to encourage them to reach for the sky.Why the "YES I CAN" Project is importantAs children build self-confidence, they also build self-esteem. Children who have self-esteem, who know they can, are likely to be better students; and less likely to be involved with gangs, violence, drugs, alcohol or tobacco. We've all heard someone say "I CAN'T" when they were asked to do something they hadn't done before. Even though they have never attempted to do that thing, their mind is already made up--they can't. That is the result of a limiting belief... or what I call an "I CAN'T" attitude. It's no wonder children form "I CAN'T" attitudes. In his book, The Answer, John Assaraf said, "By the time you're seventeen years old, you've heard "No, you can't" an average of 150,000 times. You've heard "Yes, you can" about 5,000 times. That's thirty NO's for every YES. That makes for a powerful belief of I CAN'T".By encouraging children to say "YES I CAN" (instead of "NO, I CAN'T") I believe we can help them keep from forming "I CAN'T" attitudes. YES I CAN is a very powerful affirmation and simply saying it can help you feel stronger, more capable, more likely to succeed at anything.
