The Young People's Environments, Society and Space (YESS) Research Center was established in 2005 as the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of Youth and Space. The Center is housed in the Department of Geography at San Diego State University and has affiliated faculty from a variety of different colleges and department within the university. What the YESS Center Does:Promotes high quality scholarship and theory development that are helping to define this field of study;Enhances the capacity of the Department of Geography and College of Arts and Letter to implement qualitative and interpretive research methods;Provides a community consulting program that partners with youth serving organizations and policy-makers to inform policies and improve programs that impact children and young people;Combines the talents and interests of researchers from throughout the College of Arts and Letters in order to engage with this subject area in ways that are both holistic and broadly relevant.In addition to conducting original research and organizing scholarly activities, the Center serves as a strategic partner to youth serving organization and governments, providing research and evaluation services that help to achieve common goals for children and young people.
