Health, Wellness & Fitness - Kalamazoo, Michigan, United States
I offer trauma sensitive, body-positive movement and breath practices that can help you reclaim your presence, your joy, and your sense of feeling at home in your body. I particularly enjoy helping beginners to discover yoga's empowering and self-healing practices. It is every person's birthright to experience groundedness, wellness, peace, presence and clarity in their body, and it is never too late to seek this state of well-being.I facilitate trauma-informed classes, workshops, and private sessions centering collective liberation, agency, choice, and embodiment. I offer private and group trauma-sensitive yoga sessions for trauma survivors and for those who work with trauma survivors in Kalamazoo and throughout Michigan, as well as remote individual and group sessions online. I also offer half-day training sessions on trauma and yoga for counselors, social workers, yoga teachers and yoga teacher training groups. Each offering is grounded in a deep respect for the liberating gift of yoga that Westerners have received from Indian culture.I am a longtime anti-oppression activist who began studying yoga in 1997, and my practice of these two liberatory paths is deeply intertwined. I experienced profound healing for my own trauma through yoga and decided to train as an instructor in order to share this gift with others. I completed a 200 hour teacher certification at Sattva Yoga Center in 2011, and a 300 hour certification with Melissa Spamer of Lotus in the Flame in 2016. I also completed a 300 hour certification as a Trauma Sensitive Yoga Facilitator at Boston's Center for Trauma and Embodiment in 2019, and I have participated in more than a thousand hours of additional training in yoga over the past d
