Youth Media Initiative empowers youth through extensive social media management training and internships with non-profit organization partners. Our vision is that youth, regardless of resources and background, are equipped with the tools to be competitive and successful in the innovative field of social media management. Technology is reshaping the future of the workforce. With a lack of accessibility to higher education and opportunities to develop in-demand technical skills, under-resourced young people are at risk of being left behind in the digital landscape. What if high-school aged youth were exposed to professions in technology and trained in social media management to serve their communities? This is what Youth Media Initiative (YMI) envisions for young people and local non-profit and community-based organizations. We believe we have a ‘win-win' solution: Youth Media Initiative equips young people with the tools to excel in a competitive field and helps community organizations improve their outreach through informed management of their social media platforms.
