The talented women artisans of Ladakh are part of the first line of defense against the harsh Himalayan winters - a time when work is scarce and environmental conditions are brutal. By harnessing their craft, these women entrepreneurs are fighting for financial stability for their community throughout the year. The women artisans of Ladakh hand-knit each item we sell, and all of the profits go back to India and help create a sustainable community in India that ignites economic development, social change and empowers women. The women artisans of Ladakh create one-of-a-kind hats, socks, and booties. The process is labor intensive with each piece being carefully knit by hand. While it takes about two whole days to knit a pair of socks and about three days for a hat, our women often have to take breaks to take care of their families making the time of production longer. We understand and encourage this as our purpose is to strengthen and empower the family unit. We train our artisans to produce quality products consistently, however the very nature of handmade products may have slight differences from piece to piece. As you buy this product, know that it was made by an individual sitting by the fireplace in a remote town or village and your purchase goes towards helping her family and her community. To recognize our artisans and their work we have decided to name our products after the ladies whose hands have created the products that you will be wearing. YOUR PURCHASE EMPOWERS THEM TO CREATE A BETTER LIFE.
