Zambian Alliance for Empowered Communities (ZAFEC) was established to create solutions for identified Zambian health inequities. Central to ZAFEC's approach is doing our work such that it empowers communities. We are guided by the principle that our local partners know their community best and are ideally positioned to shape the ultimate design and implementation of effective programs. We approach program implementation in a manner that maximizes the development of the local team's capacity to ensure program sustainability when the grant cycle ends. ZAFEC employs a multifaceted and systematic approach to fighting the HIV/AIDS epidemic and other health disparities with the development of data driven solutions. We empower leadership, affect HIV policy, strengthen local health systems and develop programs to prevent HIV transmission and achieve epidemic control. We enable local health providers to effectively and compassionately care for people infected with HIV/AIDS, giving hope to those infected and working to eliminate the stigma associated with living with HIV
