Zero In Dao (ZID) is a concept studio that draws inspiration from WuJi 無極. The design process is in essence the embodiment of everything and nothing. To be enlightened through process in time. To explore design without limitations. To not have a concept of beginning or end.The number zero in Dao represents everything and nothing, or WuJi 無極; Wu is nothing or emptiness, and Ji is end or limitation. WuJi means the perfect circulation, without beginning or end. From the primordial cosmos until now, this perfect circulation, no beginning or end, has never changed. The number zero represents the Dao, which belongs to nothing, but it carries everything. We don't notice the significance of zero… We don't understand what it is until we become enlightened… The founders of Zero In Dao, Ka Li & Jim Shen, are a Melbourne based, Chinese-Australian, industrial designer and engineer duo. They share a mutual passion for exploratory design, fusing nostalgic orientalism with contemporary Western design.ZID was created in pursuit of meaningful relationships between designers and the audience, manifested through narratives and experiences.
