The Žilina Self-governing Region was established under the Act No. 302/2001 Coll. on Self-governance of Territorial Units. Its role is general development of their territory and care for the needs of their citizens. The seat of the self-governing region is in Žilina.President of the self governing region represents Region from outside. President is elected directly by the inhabitants of the Region according to Act 303/2001 on elections to organs of self governing regions. Under the supervision of the Office of the Self Governing Region are the region roads, region hospitals, region hospicies, region schooles and region cultural heritage. The Office is the key beneficiery of the European grants during the period 2007 – 2013 as well as the period 2014 – 2020.
