The Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies of Charles University (ILPS CU) is a scientific-pedagogical workplace and a part of the Charles University. It organizes various Czech language courses for all those interested in the Czech language and the Czech culture. Most of the students at the Institute study in the annual preparatory courses. The study centres are not only used for teaching, but also for providing accommodation and a canteen for students. They are located in Prague (Hostivař, Krystal, Voršilská), Poděbrady, and Mariánské Lázně.Methodological and research activities are related to teaching, and the ILPS CU team is an exclusive member of ALTE (The Association of Language Testers in Europe) in the Czech Republic. It has developed the internationally recognized Czech Language Certificate Exam (CCE) which can be taken at levels A1-C1. The CCE exam is moreover recognized for proving the Czech language knowledge for permanent residence, and ILPS CU is the only institution in the Czech Republic offering the opportunity to take the Czech language exam for the Czech citizenship.
