βίδα Details

βίδα is pronounced /viːðɐ/ (IPA). It is a non-profit organisation based in Athens, Greece, which specialises in creating, instigating and supporting live, digital, intermedial, and performance-based creative-works & events, building software and related technology (for those activities and for other products and services of public benefit), and organising various activities which inspire or inform that work.βίδα began its official existence in 2006 when founded by Rowan Thorpe and Olia Lydaki, but had already existed in sporadic theoretical/real forms in various countries for more than a decade before that while Rowan travelled as a performer, before settling in Athens, Greece.Rowan has been directing, choreographing & producing work in a professional capacity intermittently since 1994, and has staged 14 of his own works, and collaboratively created numerous others. He has also worked for many years as a software engineer and several years also as a system-admin and system-architect, having already been a computer hobbiest long before that - since his childhood in the 8-bit wonderland of the 80s. Not surprisingly the artistic work became increasingly intermedial over time, and the software work increasingly "creative", and in recent years the focus of βίδα has pivoted to embrace the range between those diverse fields under a broadened "creative output" umbrella, including software development itself, as long as it aligns with the non-profit, "creative", and public-benefit motivations of βίδα.For more information please email: rowan@rowanthorpe.comor for more time-critical communication call: (+30) 6938 765525
