Hunan People's Publishing House (HPPH), founded in January 1951, is a comprehensive press with its stress on the publication of books of philosophy and social science. The House consists of 10 editorial departments dealing with political theory, publicity and education, law, literature and history, teaching materials, copyright and so on. It brings out more than 800 titles each year. HPPH aims to expand the Chinese culture and display the style and feature of the present age with elite publications. In recent years, it has won more than ten kinds of high grade book prizes, such as the National Book Prize, the "Five One" Project conferred by the Central Propaganda Department of CPC and the China Book Prize. Over 400 varieties of books have been chosen as excellent works of all levels and all kinds. HPPH undertakes 6 key selected subjects for publication of the State's Ninth and Tenth-Year Project namely The Chinese- English Library of Chinese Classics Series , The Military History of China , General Economic History of China , The Study of Socialist Market Economics, and The Chinese-English Library of Chinese Series was conferred China's highest book prize—National Book Prize.
