The paper was founded by Leicester Spring and is still owned by the Spring family.Today the group's eight businesses activities span six locations across the North Island employing over 100 people.Four newspapers lie at the heart of the group, newspapers that are the definitive sources of information within the Eastern Bay of Plenty and Northern King Country communities:• The Opotiki News is a tabloid publication containing a mixture of news, events, lifestyle and classifieds. The Opotiki News is published on a Tuesday and Thursday each week.• The Whakatane Beacon is the Eastern Bay's most widely read newspaper. It covers all aspects of life in the region from news, sport, lifestyle, events, real estate, TV listings and classified section. It is published on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday each week.• Eastern Bay Life is a free weekly publication that is distributed throughout the Eastern Bay on Saturdays. Editorially the Eastern Bay Life is lighter than the Beacon and focuses more on people, events and lighter news.• The Waitomo News is a tabloid newspaper that is delivered free Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the Northern King Country. It is a community paper with a long history that's very proud of its rural roots.Beacon Print is a commercial offset web printing company made up of two businesses, one in Whakatane and one in Hastings. It offers a variety of printing solutions and also has the capability to stitch and trim publications and also insert supplementary advertising material into products, to allow for combined distribution. Beacon Print is focussed on providing print, publication and distributions solutions for customers nationwide.Mann Print and Design and Dudfield Bryce Printers complete the groups businesses. Both offer design, print and finishing solutions including both digital and offset print options in their respective markets.
