MDRF is a pro bono, non-profit law firm in Massachusetts, providing free legal representation for low-income individuals in bankruptcy. To be eligible clients must be at or below 150% of the HHS Poverty Guidelines, or if a veteran or servicemember, at or below 200% of the Poverty Guidelines. Our Mission is to improve the quality of life for people who are unduly burdened with excessive debt by providing compassionate and effective pro bono legal representation in order to eliminate debt and restore peace of mind. The individuals we help truly struggle each day with basic expenses. They wake each day knowing that they do not have enough money to meet their daily living expenses and go to sleep hoping that they don't lose what little they do have. They have to make choices between putting gas in their car, or buying food for their young children. Many have suffered catastrophic financial setbacks through no fault of their own due to serious injury, disability, job loss, or loss of a breadwinner through death or divorce. Without starting over debt free, they continue to fall more and more behind and slowly but surely slip into the surly world of poverty. With our help, our clients can start over and begin to rebuild. We not only get them out of debt, but also help them with financial management tools so they can better manage their finances moving forward. There are always more people out there suffering in silence and in need of help but are too proud or ashamed to ask for the help they need from their family or friends, but find their way into our offices. Stress is not being able to meet their own needs, but it crosses over into suffering when they cannot meet the basic needs. As lawyers, we have unique access and insight into the worst aspects of the human condition but are also in the best position to alleviate stress and suffering and restore peace of mind. Together we can change it so everyone has equal access to a fresh financial start.
