Hi, My Name is Abby Cain. I am a certified SuperSlow Instructor and own Rock Bottoms, Inc., a one on one personal fitness studio. I train my clients for one 30 minute session weekly using the SuperSlow protocol. This means we will complete 5-7 exercises on MedX or SuperSlow equipment at each session. We will do one set of each exercise until you completely fatigue each muscle group (referred to as "muscle failure" or simply "failure"). This is done "SuperSlow," or more precisely, using 10 seconds to lift the weight and 8 seconds to lower the weight. Instead of counting reps, I will time reps. Eventually, you will achieve failure between 1 and 3 minutes while maintaining proper form and technique for maximum results and safety. It may seem a bit of an oxymoron to say "you will achieve failure," but that is precisely the goal of the workout. Why? Because by pushing your muscles to work until they completely fatigue, they are stimulated to get stronger. There can be many health benefits...healthy muscles means healthy bones (protects against osteoporosis), lower cholesterol and lower blood pressure. Getting lean (or "thinner") is merely a welcome side effect!
