Fins Swim was established April 2007 working out of a local holiday park pool. The intention was to be able to encourage those not so confident swimmers into the pool, by keeping classes small and with plenty of teacher support. having taught in local authority lessons with big classes and no assistant, I really felt for those children who were nervous and weren't getting a positive experience of being in water.As a competitive swimmer all my life, I wanted to others to develop my love of the water, so with a combination of lots of fun and games as well as traditional teaching methods, the more nervous children, hopefully, learn to love the water and not fear it. In the 10 years we have been delivering lessons, we have added other classes that complement our regular lessons. We now run baby swimming classes, Rookie lifeguard classes, swim fit classes for a local gym and Mermaid swimming classes.My next goal is to become a teacher training centre and to be able to offer swimming teacher courses. I recently qualified as an STA swimming tutor, which seemed a natural progression after over 25 years of swimming teaching, and also be able to give better in house training and support to my own teachers.
