At our Drop-in Centers (DIC) in Lynn and Salem, we provide basic needs, such as food, clothing, and hygiene products, and then through coaching, life skills classes and advocacy, we offer growth opportunities in employment, education, housing, health, and community. Basic needs: We triage individual situations and provide a space for the youth to get off the street and recover. In addition to ID's, clothing, backpacks, and hygiene items, we provide hot meals each evening, unrestricted access to a food pantry, showers, on-site laundry facilities, and funds for transportation. We also help clients access health care, emergency phones, and food stamps. Employment: Our award-winning social enterprise, Thousand Hills Café, offers on-site paid job training to 20 clients annually. We also offer products for sale which provide low barrier employment and training opportunities to our most unstable clients. We also advocate for appropriate job placements, help with resumes, provide interview clothing, and volunteer opportunities.Housing: We manage 3 community host homes which offer clients a safe place to stay for a predetermined period. We help all clients develop a viable list of temporary housing options, help them find a safe room rental, help them develop the financial capacity to rent, and if necessary, place them in emergency shelters. Education: All participants are supported to obtain a high school level education and learn how to communicate in English. Staff helps with homework, test preparation, and ESL coursework. We collaborate with schools to ensure our participants are fast-tracked for enrollment are accessing all of the financial aid available to them. Health: As needed, physical, mental, and dental providers are contacted, and young adults learn how to access and advocate for their health needs.Community: Young adults learn appropriate social skills via community meals, educational workshops, and volunteer and advocacy opportunities.
