MUNICIPALITY OF EAST HANTS"Home of The World's Highest Recorded Tides!"The Municipality of East Hants is centrally located on mainland Nova Scotia and covers some 466,426 acres (188,760 hectares) or 737 square miles. There are thirteen districts in the Municipality containing approximately 21,500 people in 7,900 households. The majority of this population is located along two key transportation routes running from Halifax to Truro (Hwy 102 & Hwy 2) and the Mount Uniacke/Lakelands along the Halifax to Windsor (Hwy 101 & Hwy 1).East Hants is bordered by the Minas Basin to the north, Halifax Regional Municipality to the south, the Municipality of West Hants to the west and Colchester County to the east. The Municipality is comprised of a very diverse mix of landforms and community types which are divided by the Rawdon Hills which run west to east. The northern and central parts of the Municipality are dominated by vast areas of forest dotted with small communities and villages. Agriculture is prevalent along both the scenic Minas shore and Kennetcook River in this region. This area includes the communities of Walton, Noel, Maitland, Kennetcook, Stanley and Gore. The southeastern portion of the Municipality (generally referred to as the 'Corridor') has experienced significant residential growth over the previous two decades. This region, which includes the communities of Enfield, Elmsdale, Lantz, Milford and Shubenacadie is the most urbanized part of the Municipality. Enabling this business growth is the transportation network that is easily accessible from East Hants. The corridor area of the Municipality adjoins Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) and as such it is only minutes from the Halifax International Airport. The Municipality is a short commute from rail services (passenger and freight) and from the Halifax shipping ports. This transportation network is a valuable resource for industry in East Hants.
