The Hotel La Playa is situated next to the longest sandy beach of Acciaroli, an ancient maritime village in the municipality of Pollica, in the Cilento National Park. In 2015, too, its sea has been one of the cleanest of Italy, and was awarded "5 sails" by the Italian Environmentalist Association Legambiente and is the overall winner in this region, Campania. Here the protection of the environment is a priority, and during the last 20 years Acciaroli has been able to boast various awards, such as the "blue flag" by FEE, which not only finds and promotes sustainable holidays respecting the environment and breathtaking landscapes, but also sustains enogastronomic excellence with local Slow Food sections.Only recently the New York Times published a long article entitled "Looking for the secrets of longevity on Pollica's roads" dedicated to our village. It is exactly here where Ancel Keys, after extensive studies on the lifestyle of the people of the Cilento, honoured Pollica with the title of Homeland of the Mediterranean Diet. Now, many years after, an independent international team of medical specialists has returned to our soil in order to continue to do research on the significance of the Mediterranean diet in a larger sense, the focal point of the discussion in the scientific community on health, quality of life and longevity. While we are looking forward to their esteemed report, we are inclined to think that our active but relaxed lifestyle, our habit to stay outside for the major part of the day, the quality of our food, the beauty of our sea and the love for nature form the best recipe for a good life.
