Medical Volunteers and its partners/ predecessor has been providing medical care to displaced people since 2016. A few of us started in July 2016 when one of our founders, Kai, was volunteering in Idomeni camp and saw the urgent need for basic health care. On returning to Hamburg, he worked with friends to plan what was very soon to become a NGO for Medical Volunteers. Just a few months later, after procuring an ambulance and some donated medical supplies, Kai drove to Thessaloniki and the idea Medical Volunteers was born. Soon, volunteers started arriving and it wasn't long before Medical Volunteers were offering treatment to up to 250 refugees per day in Ioannis camp. Since then, Medical Volunteers /its predecessor also works in Lesvos (since March 2017), Patras, and Athens (since May 2017). We are proud to call ourselves an international team, communicating in English, and working hard towards our mission of providing free medical care to people who would otherwise be without it.
