HEC-TV reaches 600,000 subscribing households throughout St. Louis City and County and is St. Louis' leading producer of education, arts, and cultural television programming. HEC-TV is the only television station in the metro area with the mission statement "to strengthen and promote the education, arts, and cultural communities in the St. Louis Metropolitan area." In October 2011, we were awarded the Emmy for Station Excellence by our peers for the second year running. We have received several Emmys and Tellys over the last four years. One of our premiere programs, State of the Arts, has won in each year. And our documentary, Mission to Education, received a national wide award from NATOA. Above just a cable television station, we keep each of our premiere programs on our website for Video on Demand viewing. The station is programmed by the Higher Education Consortium, which is composed of the 12 colleges and universities and 62 cooperating school districts in the metro area. Our Board of Directors is comprised of the Presidents and/or Chancellors of these member institutions. Member institutions award, on average, 50,000 college credit hours annually through telecourses. Thirty-eight thousand students are registered to watch our foreign language programs to strengthen their language studies. HEC-TV broadcasts programs in 12 languages. Our signal is streamed via the internet twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, which extends our programming reach to the world.
