In Cook County, the County Treasurer oversees the second-largest property tax collection and distribution system in the United States. The Office is responsible for:•Printing and mailing bills for two installments each year based on data provided by other county and state agencies on assessments, exemptions and tax rates.•Collecting approximately $12 billion each year in taxes from the owners of nearly 1.8 million parcels of property in Cook County.•Distributing tax funds to about 2,200 local government agencies that collect taxes. The agencies include school districts, villages, cities, townships, park and forest preserve systems, libraries and public health and safety agencies.
