URANIA has been synonymous with basketball in Milan since 1952. For over 60 years it has been basketball, sport and fun in Milan. It was 1952 when the founder of Urania, away from Lexington where the University of Kentucky is based in the United States, saw the "wildcat" on the elegant blue and red uniforms of the famous university team led by the legendary coach Adolph Rupp.It was immediately "love at first sight" as "Nino" tells us: "Among other things, I was struck by the elegance of the Kentucky University basketball players, especially with their white satin suits, then unknown in Italy, where they were used still those fleece or wool.Since the players of the team of that university were nicknamed "WILDCATS" (that is wild cats quite common in that region), on the back of their suits there was a gigantic cat's head. I liked this emblem so much that I thought of adopting it with some changes for URANIA whose players were all rather small and snappy.Since then the "wild cat" began to camp on the shirts and satin suits that we had made on the American model and remained the symbol of our team. "Today URANIA still keeps that pioneering spirit and that DNA alive but has turned into a young and dynamic reality where the values of sport, loyalty and "fairplay" are still the foundations and the cement that unites these guys. In addition to a First Team that plays in the Serie A2 National Championship, URANIA has a very active youth sector in which young talents can find a suitable environment to develop their skills and the right spirit. Various initiatives are included in this area such as the Summer CAMP in the mountains and in Milan in the months of June, where younger children can spend a week of basketball and life lessons.
