WHAT WE DO: The Dupuytren Foundation is a 501(c)3 Public charity working to find a cure for Dupuytren's Disease and related conditions.HOW WE DO IT: We provide educational resources (patient brochures, conference presentations, academic publications) and have organized the largest Dupuytren research study ever undertaken: the International Dupuytren Data Bank (IDDB). The IDDB was designed from the ground up with the goal of developing a cure for Dupuytren disease.WHY THIS MATTERS: Dupuytren disease is not just a hand deformity: it has profound effects on overall health and lifespan in the millions of people it affects. Compared to the average population, people with Dupuytren contracture have twice the risk of cancer, and have shortened lifespans from cancer and other medical conditions. A medical treatment of Dupuytren disease will impact overall health far beyond the benefit to people's hands. We are the only independent group working for a cure rather than focusing entirely on finger deformity. This is a fundamental shift in thinking, and the biggest step forward since this condition was named after Dupuytren, the surgeon. We don't need a better operation: we need a cure.
