Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre has a Mission to deliver a quality patient experience in an academic health care environment that is responsive to the needs of the population of Northwestern Ontario. Our region has a population of over 250,000 residents scattered over a geographical area the size of France.We offer an expansive range of specialist services, and are designated as an academic health sciences centre.As a teaching hospital, we are proudly affiliated with Lakehead University and Confederation College and are a host training facility for students from the Northern Ontario School of Medicine, as well as other medical schools.Our research arm, the Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute houses the region's only cyclotron and radiopharmacy, capable of producing medical isotopes for clinical use. The research being done by our scientists has also made us one of the Top 40 Research Hospitals in Canada.Teaching the next generation of health care providers and advancing medical research means patients benefit from a team approach to care, and the chance to take part in clinical trials. Thanks to support from our Health Sciences Foundation, leading-edge technology and equipment enhance patient care.We are one of the largest employers in Thunder Bay with nearly 2,800 staff, 500 volunteers and 100 Patient Family Advisors. The annual operating budget is more than $300 million.
