From 1999 to 2010, American Fiber Systems built or acquired 9 metropolitan areas fiber optic networks with over 76,000 fiber miles to become one of the premiere facilities based competitive access service providers in those metropolitan networks. American Fiber Systems was acquired by the ZAYO Group on October 1, 2010. The ZAYO Group is a provider of telecom & Internet infrastructure services.
