The Family Online Safety Institute is an international, non-profit organization which works to make the online world safer for kids and their families. FOSI convenes leaders in industry, government and the non-profit sectors to collaborate and innovate new solutions and policies in the field of online safety. FOSI believes in a bottom-up, multi-stakeholder approach that is evidence-based and empowering. While acknowledging the potential for risks online, we also embrace the positive and enriching use of digital technology in all its forms, which has lead to a foundation for our mission and priorities: enlightened public policy, industry best practice and good digital parenting. FOSI works on a range of specialized initiatives dedicated to issues in online safety, as well as the wider social and cultural effects that technology has on families and young people. We offer A Platform for Good, a project designed to help parents, teachers, and teens to find educational resources and encourage them to connect to the great number of ways that the Internet is used positively. FOSI also hosts free resources such as the Global Resource and Information Directory (GRID), a free, comprehensive portal that monitors, tracks and provides commentary on the efforts of countries around the world. As a top convener in the field, FOSI holds a large-scale annual conference in Washington, DC each year, as well as an annual European forum. Through guidance from our thirty-strong industry membership and an attuned perception to the state of global online safety, we also hold a number of roundtable or forum discussions regionally around the world, and create space for discussion around relevant policy and legislative developments.
