Torfaen County Borough Council is a unitary authority based in south east Wales. Every day of the year, Torfaen delivers hundreds of services to the borough's 91,000 residents from maintaining roads and empyting bins to supporting carers and educating young people. In May 2011 the council launched Corporate Plan 2 - a strategy that will guide its direction of travel for the next five years. The plan focuses on providing support for our most vulnerable citizens and communities. The priorities are:Supporting families and children living in poverty to get through the recessionPreventing Torfaen residents coming homelessSafeguarding children, especially those with additional (special) educational needs and supporting positive attitudes towards educationProtecting the most vulnerable adults and supporting those with disabilities and other long term conditionsTargeting support to deprived communities and families suffering from crime and antisocial behaviourUsing resources wisely to include maintaining the highway infrastructure and reducing energy consumption and wasteSupporting initiatives which generate employment and training for work opportunities.
