Club Christ Ministries began with a simple prayer, "God use me to bless kids in this city." That was the heart of founder and Executive Director, Evan Hartsell, who opened the first center in February 2004 with the help of his friends Amy Cornwall and Ricky Mends. Evan was a Children's Ministry Director at a suburban church when he felt a calling to serve impoverished families. That two bedroom apartment off of Martin Luther King Blvd. filled up with children eager to learn each afternoon. Led by a strong Board of Directors, CCM attracted volunteers from all backgrounds to give their time to serve students in need.Five years later, this grass roots approach to reaching at-risk children was duplicated in the City of Henderson's housing projects. CCM became one of the first faith-based organizations to partner with the Housing Authority to offer services to their residents. That facility expanded the reach of CCM to over 100 children a week. Since then CCM has launched two more centers that have impacted even more students. With the help of a grant from the City of Henderson and Cox Communications, CCM expanded its reading program to include Ticket to Read and Explode the Code. With these tools, children have dramatically improved their reading levels with consistent practice. Club Christ Ministries is now able to serve children and families through their two centers each week with tutoring, mentoring, leadership development, and Biblical foundation classes. We look forward to expanding throughout all of Las Vegas to impact thousands of young lives in this city.
