Facing Change: Documenting America (FCDA) is a team of celebrated photographers and writers who have come together out of a sense of crisis. The United States now stands at a crossroads confronting an extraordinary array of challenges. Yet as the country enters into the second decade of a new century, few are able to understand—let alone address—the critical issues we face. FCDA's aims are high: to document the urgent and essential concerns facing Americans today by embedding photographer-writer teams in rural, suburban, and urban communities across the country. We will use the images and stories gathered to humanize a wide spectrum of social and cultural issues such as health care, the environment, immigration, the economy, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, in order to identify and highlight local services, not-for-profit organizations, and individuals who effectively make a difference.
