Lately there is enormous demand for qualified and trained public health specialists in India and other developing countries. However, there are only a few institutes in Asian countries, which offer quality-assured specialized training in public health suited for the needs of countries like India. It was in this context that a group of Indian public health visionaries came together to develop a state-of-the art public health institute and they coined the name Global Institute of Public Health (GIPH). Many Indian public health experts working across the globe own up this venture and contribute ideas to it. Considering many factors especially the unique position that Kerala state enjoys in the global public health map, it was decided to base the institute in Kerala. Kerala has the best health indicators in the country, many of which are comparable with the developed nations. GIPH will also provide an opportunity for public health students across the globe to learn and understand the ‘Kerala model of health' more closely. The secretariat of the GIPH will be hosted and administered at the Ananthapuri Hospitals and Research Institute, an Nationally accredited specialty teaching hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala state, India. GIPH is envisioned as a new-age Public health teaching and research institute catering to the needs of the developing world. The Institute offers a two- year international Masters program in Public Health (MPH) affiliated to the Kerala University of Health Sciences
