Madrid for Refugees was formed in August 2015 in response to the growing refugee crisis in Europe to join ongoing efforts to help refugees in Spain with both their immediate and long-term needs, from providing clothing and assistance finding housing, to empowering them as they begin to look for jobs and embark on the process of integration into Spanish society. Through donation drives, the group is also contributing to efforts to send much-needed supplies to refugees currently housed in camps abroad. As a largely English-speaking group with Spanish language skills, we have a unique opportunity to be able to offer our support and expertise in English in order to promote employability in the global job market as well as to liaise with international organizations to raise awareness about the current refugee crisis. What can Madrid For Refugees Offer? A 1,000 plus volunteer network made up of many working professionals with diverse cultural perspectives and skill sets willing to collaborate on activities to help refugees and support like-minded organizations. The large volunteer base guarantees the availability of a significant number of volunteers willing to collaborate on diverse efforts. These efforts include: • Donation Drives • Activities and Events • Social Integration support • Jobs and Housing support • Pro-bono Legal support • Business Outreach • Fundraising support What have we accomplished so far? • Donation drives in more than ten drop-off locations throughout the city • Helped refugee families with their specific needs; blankets, clothing, kitchen supplies, etc. • Collaborated with AAPS to send supplies to the Turkish border • Used our volunteer network and social media presence to promote NGO fundraisers and refugee-run businesses in Madrid, with very successful results
