The Belgian Poison Centre is a royal foundation of public utility that offers free, immediate medical assistance over the telephone in case of exposure to poisonous or hazardous substances. Its telephone number is 070 245 245.In 2019 the Centre received over 60 000 calls. About half of these calls was for adults, a third was for children aged 0-4. The Centre also supervises a large database of information on toxic substances. It collects information on products from the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. It manages a limited supply of very specific antidotes that can be distributed to hospitals all over Belgium.The telephone number is free of charge and is manned by a medical staff composed of doctors and pharmacists. The Centre is based at the Reine Astrid Military Hospital managed by the Belgian Armed Forces.
