UCSIA is an independent non-profit organisation with the aim of continuing the Jesuit tradition of involvement in university education, research and community service in the Flemish and Antwerp region. The University Centre Saint-Ignatius Antwerp (UCSIA) is an offspring of the former Jesuit university of UFSIA. It was founded by the Jesuit Order and members of the former UFSIA in 2002, when the 3 universities in Antwerp merged into one: the University of Antwerp, the first explicitly pluralistic university in Belgium. UCSIA intends to complement and support the scholarly mission of the University of Antwerp with a strong focus on problems and issues requiring an interdisciplinary approach.UCSIA is active in supporting and initiating scholarly work, education and community service by- organising interdisciplinary summer programmes, lecture series, conferences and symposia- promoting teaching and research with a cultural, religious, philosphical, ethical or spiritual dimension- stimulating publications- offering scholarships and research facilities for international scholars spending a period of study in Antwerp
