Jail To Jobs started as a non-profit organization 10 years ago seeing great success in offering Bible studies in juvenile detention facilities. Despite the desire for our youth to change after being released, they were being locked right back up again. To lower the recidivism rate, we realized the need for a more sustainable approach to supporting our youth when released from jail. The strategy we found to work is employment-based mentoring. Most of the Jail to Jobs staff are ex-felons with a past of their own, allowing them to relate to the youth we serve. We teach and empower the youth in our job training programs to earn a wage and get set up for success. Our youth gain the experience and skills needed to get a quality job — something many of them did not think was possible because of their past.
