Open Heart Magic (OHM) is a Chicago-based non-profit organization that works to improve the hospital experience for kids. OHM partners with children's hospitals to empower young patients who are experiencing intense stress, fear and sadness due to serious illness and difficult medical treatments. Parents describe seeing their kids smile for the first time when our volunteer magicians arrive. Because our volunteers undergo rigorous training in clinical protocols, they're able to go where other charities can't – reaching kids in pediatric intensive care, oncology, isolation, the burn unit and the emergency room. Today, our certified children's hospital magicians reach 12,000 young patients annually at twelve hospitals — bringing kids the hope and strength they need to keep fighting to get better.OHM currently has 150 volunteer hospital magicians providing service in 10 hospitals in the greater Chicago area as well as a programs at CS Mott Children's Hospital in Michigan and Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. We provided over 11,000 one-on-one Bedside Magic experiences to kids and their families in 2016 and continues to build on that success.In addition to volunteer Hospital Magicians, OHM has a talented group of professionals who serve on the Board of Directors and the Professional Board. We also host an annual a Charity Team comprised of athletes (runners, triathletes, tough mudders, etc.) who fundraise to support the program. OHM is a community funded organization with the lion's share of our funding coming individual donors, local companies, the Annual Open Heart Magic Benefit, and the aforementioned charity team.
