Notes on the State of New Jersey (NSNJ) is an online publication dedicated to keeping New Jersey's history alive, while also preserving present-day New Jersey experiences for posterity. NSNJ was founded in 2011 by Melissa Morris. A native Jersey girl with deep Jersey roots and a passion for history, Melissa was inspired by the book written in 1781 by Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the State of Virginia; this book on Virginia was written as a series of answers to queries about the state from an inquiring party overseas. As a team of contributors from a variety of walks of life, NSNJ plans to respond to new inquiries about the state of New Jersey in a similar way. Mission Statement The mission of NSNJ is to answer questions about the Garden State and its history, as well as highlight and promote the state's contemporary attractions, destinations, and the accomplishments of notable individuals. NSNJ is not designed to replace anything that's presently happening in New Jersey, but rather to help support and promote what's already going on. As they are added to the site, the "notes" will capture the real-life happenings in New Jersey, from a variety of perspectives, and though NSNJ will cover the larger items that appear in other publications, we'll also be working to cover the smaller, though equally important, items - everything that is New Jersey.
