Established in 1980, and incorporated in 1982, Uptown Shelby Association (USA) operates the Main Street program in Shelby, NC. USA was one of the first five Main Street Associations in North Carolina and one of the first 30 Main Street programs nationally under the pilot program launched by the National Trust For Historic Preservation.Our mission is to advocate, celebrate, and enhance Uptown Shelby. We accomplish this by: Leading through long-term planning and thought leadership Empowering Stakeholders Fostering Communication, Community Engagement, and CollaborationWe work to grow a stronger, more viable district through promotion, partnerships, economic restructuring, and design.The 4-Point Main Street approach is a proven model for community involvement in development and redevelopment of business and civic districts. We are governed by a Board of Directors, which meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 5:30pm at our offices, 211 South Trade Street. The Uptown Shelby Association staff, its board of directors, host of volunteer supporters and community partners work together to promote economic development and historic preservation in Uptown Shelby, and to produce events that appeal to residents and visitors.
