Passionate about making the curriculum accessible for ALL, irrespective of their reading ability at Oaka Books - Portsmouth, England, United Kingdom
Oaka Books produces revision guides for visual learners and dyslexic students aged 10-13 years. We will launch our first set of 9 History revision topics for Common Entrance and KS3 students on 10th August. Our guides are all highly visual, use easy to read fonts on pale coloured backgrounds and simple to follow 'bullet point' layouts. The Revision booklets include Memory Maps (or spider diagrams) and a Glossary of Key Terms. Each guide covers one topic so students are not overwhelmed by a big revision book. Our revision sets have been devised by the mother of a dyslexic child following her experiences of preparing her daughter for Common Entrance Exams. The sets include a fully illustrated Revision Booklet, an Active Revision Map which includes test yourself questions and illustrates what happened and where, a push out Character Sheet for the student to 'act out' the events with the map and finally an illustrated Notes booklet for the student to write his or her own notes. Oaka Books has worked alongside a number of SEN teachers and subject teachers in the preparation of these guides to try to give students an engaging revision experience. Further topic sets for Geography, Science and English are currently in production. Please take a look at our website and let us know what you think www.oakabooks.co.uk. We would love to hear from you!
