Executive Director of Milanof-Schock Library in beautiful Mount Joy Pennsylvania
Milanof-Schock Library's mission is to be a community resource that enriches lives through education, information, exploration, and socialization. MSL provides library service to our community in beautiful Lancaster County Pennsylvania and has an official service area that includes the municipalities of Marietta Borough and Mount Joy Borough, East Donegal Township, Mount Joy Township and Rapho Township. The Mount Joy Library began as a Girl Scout troop community project in 1962. Demand was so great that the library moved to a former store front at 22 East Main Street two years later. By the early 1990s community interest and demand for library services grew to the point that the need for a new facility was clear. Spearheaded by major donations by community members Anne Milanof and Clarence Schock, a capital fund drive raised $1.1 million dollars successfully establishing the new building located at 1184 Anderson Ferry Road in Mount Joy and changing the library's name to Milanof-Schock Library.More recently, Milanof-Schock Library's dedication to service has earned it local, national, and international recognition being named "Best Small Library in America" by Library Journal and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It cannot be overstated that the success of the library is because of the continued support of the community we serve. The library is here for the community, and the library is here because of the community.
