Meta Mesh is a Pittsburgh-based non-profit organization that builds CWNs (community wireless networks). In contrast to your internet connection at home or office, no single company or ISP (internet service provider) owns or manages all of the equipment that comprises a CWN. Instead, we put the management of the network and equipment into the hands of individuals, neighborhoods, and even small local governments. And that's exactly what we do. In fact, Meta Mesh is building the country's largest wireless network community right in their hometown of Pittsburgh, aptly called "PittMesh." Through small grants, Meta Mesh has set up CWNs in various neighborhoods throughout Pittsburgh, a map of which can be seen at www.pittmesh.net. In addition to expanding locally, Meta Mesh will come closer to achieving its goal of building a replicable, easily-deployed solution for anyone anywhere to build their own WCN by launching a Kickstarter campaign in July. Soon after, we will open the FIRST online store where the public can purchase pre-assembled and pre-configured wireless mesh networking kits.
