The Diocese of Leeds Schools Singing Programme is recognised as the UK's leading provider of choral singing, reaching around 6,000 children weekly, both during and outside the school day in 150 choral groups. These include the six choirs of Leeds Cathedral and Boys' and Girls' Choirs in Bradford, Keighley, Huddersfield, Wakefield and Pontefract. In May 2016, the Keyboard Studies Programme was launched to provide high-quality organ, piano and classical accordion tuition across the Diocese to choristers, school students and adult learners. With a national decline in students learning the organ, the programme aims to reintroduce this instrument steeped in tradition to students of all backgrounds, teaching them valuable musical skills and opening doors to opportunities in further education. These two areas of work are complementary and the musical and educational rewards flow into the schools and the liturgical life of the Diocese.
