Executive Manager - Stakeholder Relations, Land & Environment at Marinus Link - Lenah Valley, TAS, AU
Marinus Link is a proposed 1500 megawatt capacity HVDC undersea and underground electricity interconnector between Tasmania and Victoria, as part of Australia's National Electricity Market (NEM). The NEM is rapidly transforming as new energy generation infrastructure replaces ageing infrastructure. Marinus Link can help smooth this transition by providing access to a clean, low-cost and reliable energy supply. Marinus Link, and supporting HVAC transmission developments in North West Tasmania (known collectively as Project Marinus) are being progressed by the Australian Government and TasNetworks (on behalf of the Tasmanian Government). The project is currently in the Design and Approvals phase, with a Final Investment Decision expected by late 2023 - early 2024. Project Marinus has now reached the The Project Assessment Conclusions Report (PACR) stage of the Regulatory Investment Test for Transmission (RIT-T), as required under the National Electricity Rules, demonstrating that all NEM customers will benefit from lower wholesale electricity prices in a future grid with Marinus Link, compared to a grid without it, and that the benefits will outweigh the costs.
