Executive Director at Cancer Support Community East Tennessee - Knoxville, Tennessee, United States
Behind every cancer-related statistic is a story — a patient struggling with thoughts about the future and the ups and downs of cancer's emotional rollercoaster or a caregiver keeping up a strong front when they really could use a shoulder to cry on. At CSCET, people affected by cancer are able to unite together, under the guidance of trained professionals, to face their diagnosis in a compassionate, supportive environment. All FREE programs are designed to enhance physical and emotional health and improve quality of life. These services include weekly and monthly support groups, individual support sessions, educational workshops on managing cancer, wellness classes in nutrition, gentle movement and stress reduction as well as creativity and social programs. We strive to meet all of the psycho-social needs of patients and families impacted by cancer. CSCET programs and services have four primary goals: • Educate members so they are knowledgeable about their disease and better able to navigate their treatment, side-effects, and recovery • Provide members with tools and resources that enable them to take action in their overall health and healthcare decisions • Teach members a variety of stress management techniques so they experience a reduction in depression, anxiety, and/or fatigue, and are better able to focus on healing • Reduce member's feelings of isolation and hopelessness that often accompany a cancer diagnosis
