The Meat Industry Association is the voluntary trade body representing New Zealand's red meat processors, marketers and exporters. Our members produce some of the world's highest quality, nutritious and hormone and antibiotic free food for consumers in over 120 countries worldwide.As New Zealand's second largest goods exporter, the red meat industry generates $9.3 billion in export revenue annually, exporting 85% of total production.It is also New Zealand's largest manufacturing industry, employing more than 25,000 people in 60 locations around the country. Every year, the industry processes more than 28 million sheep and cattle, of which 90% is turned in value-added products. As the leading voice for the industry, the MIA works to ensure the sector's ongoing prosperity. We do this through advocacy across key issues including trade policy and market access, technical and regulatory issues, workforce issues and science and innovation.We co-ordinate programmes and information to support members. And we invest in leading-edge, high-value technologies and science on behalf to increase the profitability and sustainability of the red meat processing sector.
