Director of The Humanitarian Movement Committee at UBC Red Cross - Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
The UBC Red Cross Club is a non-political and non-religious humanitarian club. We serve as the liaison between UBC students and the Canadian Red Cross Lower Mainland Office and to a greater extent, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement. Our principles are humanity, impartiality, independence, neutrality, voluntary service, unity and universality. Our main objectives are: • to bring awareness to our campus of local and global issues.• to raise money for selective international appeals. • to engage in community outreach and volunteering programs. In the past few years, we've been able to raise thousands of dollars for our appeals, which have included the Sudan Crisis, the Southeast Asia Earthquake and Tsunami and the Africa Sahel Food Crisis. Speakers were invited to our numerous awareness workshops and panel discussions on international humanitarian law or the BC fentanyl crisis, to give firsthand accounts of their experiences around the world. In addition to our international focus, we are also involved with the local community, offering volunteer opportunities with the Lower Mainland Canadian Red Cross, Vancouver General Hospital, and the UBC Food Bank.
