8B is a new kind of student finance company. Our mission is to provide affordable college financing to exceptional African students attending leading global universities. 8B understands the unique frustrations faced by countless African students who receive offers from world-class universities but fail to enroll for a lack of funding.8B approaches student finance as a long-term investment in the human capital necessary for the sustainable development of the continent. To support our mission, we address student needs along three critical pathways. First, we provide high-performing students the resources to navigate the tortuous process of college application. Second, we provide gap funding using Guaranteed Loans and Income Share Agreements in a market-based approach that aligns incentives between socially oriented capital and for-profit investors. And lastly, we connect our students to a network of mentors and leaders across a diverse range of global industries.We chose the name 8B because we believe that Africa must be fit for purpose in a world of 8 Billion (8B). To accomplish this, the continent needs a deep bench of highly educated ecosystem-builders and problem-solvers who are equipped to participate, compete, and thrive in the knowledge economy of the 21st century.
