Turnip Green Creative Reuse’s (TGCR) mission is fostering creativity and sustainability through reuse. TGCR aims to divert valuable materials from Nashville’s landfill and connect them with community members who need them such as artists, crafters, hobbyists, sustainable living enthusiasts, students, teachers, and other creatives. We do this through four areas of service—Creative Reuse Center, Green Gallery and Marketplace, Open Studio, and education and outreach programs—that have grown rapidly since our inception in 2011. We aim to foster a greater investment in our city’s future overall through cultivation of a community invested in working together to reduce the waste we generate. Each of our areas of service offers inspiration for how to value materials and to learn to see their potential for a new or extended purpose. Our Creative Reuse Center offers materials using a pay-what-you-can model—we are dedicated to accessibility and want our creative community to have access to art supplies and many other materials they need. Our Green Gallery and Marketplace showcases the full potential of creative reuse, and it offers inspiration to guests and income for artists and artisans who work with reuse materials. Our Open Studio offers affordable classes and workshops so that the community can learn valuable skills, explore new mediums, and learn about art making. Our outreach and education programs foster environmental stewardship and cultivate new ways of thinking for creative minds of all ages through events, programs, workshops and more!
